Build a Dwarven kingdom under the mountain

Start with a pickaxe and a castle. Mine rock, gather ore, and spend it on buildings and upgrades.
Build lodges to hire miners. They will dig and carry ore on their own. Build barracks to hire soldiers, then set rally points to guard your workers and tunnels.
Mining may reveal hidden rooms full of goblins and other threats. Your soldiers fight on their own, but you choose where they gather and how to make them stronger.
Cleared rooms leave behind treasure chests. Open them to find relics that improve your workers, army, or kingdom.

To finish the demo, find and defeat the Goblin Chieftain.

How to play

  • Left click rock to mine
  • Click buildings, dwarves, and chests to use them
  • Click and drag to move the map
  • Use the mouse wheel to zoom
  • Press P to view building plans
  • Press R to view and equip relics
  • Press Esc to close a screen or cancel an action

You can only build on clear ground. Drag relics from your inventory into open relic slots to use them.

Demo note

This is my first game and an early prototype. I made it to test the main idea of mining, building, automation, and combat.
The game does not save your progress yet. The demo is short enough to finish in one sitting. After you defeat the Goblin Chieftain, you may keep playing and explore the mountain.
Please tell me what you enjoyed, what confused you, and what felt too easy or too hard. I would also like to know what you want to see in a full game.

Similar to other comments, it's a really well made prototype! Great for a first game, keep it up. A few bugs: building on top of a guy traps him. Surrounding a building with other buildings renders that center building inaccessible and renders its troops/miners useless. I think both of these can be quickly fixed by allowing buildings to be movable.

Font makes it difficult to tell numbers apart; similar to what dogchair said in a different comment. Just a few minor QoL things, but the gameplay loop itself is fun!

Building on top of a guy appears to trap him.

Progress doesn't save.

Got the same bug. Have to wait he get killed by some ennemies.

This is a great start!  I'm excited to see what you add.

UI

Sometimes, especially at the edge of the screen, the pointer finger of the mouse cursor and the head of the pick cursor do not match up.  This makes it really hard to manually mine.

The font makes it difficult to distinguish numbers.  I could not tell the difference between the 3 and 8, or the 5 and 2 at first glance.

Gameplay

That was a satisfying but short loop.  I definitely agree with another poster that we should be able to move mining lodges, or at least destroy and replace them.  Sometimes the pathfinding for the soldiers and the monsters would be a bit silly and they would walk parallel to each other.  I wish there were more upgrades and relics besides just move faster or dealing more damage.  The best combat relic being locked behind the final boss is also not useful, as there's nothing left to do with it after that.

Bugs

I had a worker stuck inside a miner's lodge until the end of the game.  I'm not sure if it got inside by accident, or if I accidentally placed the lodge on top of it.

Cool game i liked it. It kinda fun clearing the map. It would be nice to have a way to move or demolish buildings.

Hey, really glad that you enjoyed the game!
Actually your suggestion of moving the buildings makes a lot of sense, I'll keep in mind.
Thank for the feedback!

I second that idea. Dwarf miners (possibly soldiers too, but didn't happen to me) can get stuck between buildings if you cram them together, moving buildings will serve many uses.

I don't think it's a good Idea, I better like the Idea we can build some minecart.
